Guide/Settings
Zones
Zones let you paint on the live map where the ship works and where it must stay away. Each map has its own zones, and they are saved in the config.
Two kinds
| Zone | What it means |
|---|---|
| Preferred | The ship roams only here. Paint nothing and it uses the whole map. |
| Avoided | The ship never flies here. Avoided always wins over preferred. |
Tip
Use avoided for the corner where players camp, or around a dangerous NPC spawn. Use preferred to keep the ship near a portal or in the area with the most NPCs.
Paint zones
The account must be on the map you want to paint.
- Open the account's map (The live map).
- Press Edit zones at the top. The map turns into a grid.
- In the panel on the right, choose what to edit: Preferred or Avoided.
- Drag across the map to paint cells. Start dragging on a painted cell to erase instead.
- Press Done editing.
Handy buttons in the panel:
- − / + next to Grid: bigger or smaller cells.
- Fill: paint the whole map. Invert: swap painted and empty. Clear: remove everything.
- Copy zones from another map…: start from zones you already painted elsewhere.
Settings that use zones
In your config under General → Working area:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Working map | The map to work on. The ship travels back to it if it ends up somewhere else. |
| Return to the working map | Travel back after a gate or a death leaves the ship elsewhere. |
| Roam to preferred zones in order | Visit the painted cells one after another instead of at random. |
| Only kill NPCs in preferred area | Only attack NPCs that are inside a preferred zone. |
Rules it always follows when travelling:
- Routes never go through maps your pilot level can't enter, or through galaxy gates.
- A journey stuck at one portal for 90 seconds is given up, and the job carries on where the ship is.
- Inside a galaxy gate, the ship is never pulled out to go back to the working map.
Safe zones
The third choice in the zones panel, Safe places, lists the safe places the ship has found (bases, portals, stations) and how each may be used. See Staying alive.
Good to know
The Map zones category of a config shows a summary of what is painted on every map.
