Guide/Start here
Install on Linux
LeanBot also runs on 64-bit Linux (x86-64), for example a Debian or Ubuntu server. There is no window: LeanBot runs in the background and you use it in your web browser, with the same screens as on Windows.
Download and start it
- Go to the download page and download the Linux version,
LeanBot-linux-x64.tar.gz. - Unpack it as your own user (not with
sudo), in a folder you will keep:tar -xzf LeanBot-linux-x64.tar.gzYou get a folder calledLeanBot. - Start it:
cd LeanBotand then./start.shThe first start downloads Microsoft's free .NET runtime intoLeanBot/dotnetif your system doesn't have it yet. That takes a minute and happens only once. - Open
http://localhost:5210in a browser on the same computer.
That folder is LeanBot. Your accounts, settings and logs are in the data folder inside it. Copy the whole folder to back it up.
Run it all the time (a server)
On a server you want LeanBot to start with the machine and keep running when you log out. From the LeanBot folder:
- Run
sudo ./install-service.sh - Choose a password when it asks. You need it to open LeanBot from another computer.
- Open
http://your-server-address:5210and sign in with that password.
| To | Run |
|---|---|
| See what it's doing | journalctl -u leanbot -f |
| Stop it | sudo systemctl stop leanbot |
| Start it again | sudo systemctl start leanbot |
| Remove the service | sudo ./install-service.sh --remove |
You can change the password later on the Access screen.
Opening it from another computer
Until a password is set, LeanBot only lets in the computer it runs on. Every other computer gets a page saying so. Two ways in:
- Set a password.
install-service.shasks for one. Without the service, open LeanBot on the computer itself and set one on the Access screen. - Use an SSH tunnel. On your own PC run
ssh -L 5210:localhost:5210 you@your-server, then openhttp://localhost:5210there.
Keep the data folder private. Linux has no built-in password vault, so LeanBot saves your DarkOrbit account passwords there unencrypted. The install-service.sh service runs as you, and the folder is only readable by you.
The web page uses plain http://, with no encryption. The password stops strangers, but on a network you don't trust, use the SSH tunnel instead.
The command line
The leanbot command in the folder controls a running LeanBot from a terminal:
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
./leanbot status | What the bot is doing right now |
./leanbot help | Every command the running LeanBot offers |
./leanbot mcp | Connects your own AI app - see AI assistant |
Run it as the same user LeanBot runs as. It finds LeanBot by itself.
Updating
LeanBot updates itself, the same as on Windows: see Updates. When you install an update, LeanBot stops for a few seconds and starts again. That works when it was started with ./start.sh or as the service.
When darkorbit.com asks for a captcha
LeanBot opens the captcha in Chromium or Google Chrome. If you don't have either, install Chromium (sudo apt install chromium on Debian) or paste a session instead: see Accounts.
